A Juneau grand jury on Wednesday indicted a Juneau driver involved in a drunken car crash who allegedly left behind his injured passenger.<\/p>\n
Brylie C. Yadao, 20, faces two felony charges for third-degree assault and for leaving the scene of an accident in connection to the March 19 incident along Glacier Highway. He was also charged with driving under the influence, a misdemeanor.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors said JPD responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a man with a bloody face was near a red car upright in the middle of the road. When police arrived, they learned the man on scene was the passenger and the driver had taken off in a second vehicle.<\/p>\n
The injured passenger was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Around the same time, Yadao showed up at the hospital for treatment, according to a police report.<\/p>\n
Police later contacted Yadao at his home and, by way of a search warrant, conducted a blood test that reportedly showed Yadao had 0.121 blood alcohol content.<\/p>\n
Yadao admitted to police that he took several \u201cpulls\u201d of Jack Daniel\u2019s whiskey while he was at a bonfire out the road, according to prosecutors. Yadao also told officers he left the scene of the accident because he was urged to do so by others around him.<\/p>\n
He first appeared in court Sept. 8 for an arraignment in Juneau District Court. An arraignment on Sept. 29 is now scheduled to take place in Juneau Superior Court.<\/p>\n
Yadao does not have a criminal history in Alaska, court records show.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
