{"id":29366,"date":"2016-02-17T09:06:03","date_gmt":"2016-02-17T17:06:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/forest-service-proposes-long-term-anan-plan\/"},"modified":"2016-02-17T09:06:03","modified_gmt":"2016-02-17T17:06:03","slug":"forest-service-proposes-long-term-anan-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/forest-service-proposes-long-term-anan-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"Forest Service proposes long-term Anan plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Forest Service is seeking the public\u2019s input as it releases a 30-year plan for construction projects at Anan Wildlife Observatory near Wrangell.<\/p>\n<p>The observatory is one of the most popular bear-viewing destinations in Southeast Alaska and is slated to receive a suite of trail improvements and structure improvements to accommodate a growing number of visitors.<\/p>\n<p>The most controversial of late is a mooring float expected to offer space for small boats, floatplanes and skiffs. Passengers would have to travel between the mooring float and the shore on a skiff, disembarking on the Anan beach.<\/p>\n<p>A proposal for a floating dock on the beach was rejected due to cost concerns and public opposition.<\/p>\n<p>The Forest Service is taking public comments on the float plan and other projects at Anan. The deadline for comments on the mooring float is March 1.
