{"id":29437,"date":"2017-06-14T14:20:08","date_gmt":"2017-06-14T21:20:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/ultimate-frisbee-pickup-game-is-tonight\/"},"modified":"2017-06-14T14:20:08","modified_gmt":"2017-06-14T21:20:08","slug":"ultimate-frisbee-pickup-game-is-tonight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/ultimate-frisbee-pickup-game-is-tonight\/","title":{"rendered":"Ultimate Frisbee pickup game is tonight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Juneau Ultimate, a local group of Ultimate Frisbee players, holds one of their twice-weekly pickup games tonight at the Juneau-Douglas High School field at 8 p.m. They also play Sundays at 3 p.m. at the Thunder Mountain High School turf field in the Mendenhall Valley.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimate, previously known as Ultimate Frisbee, is a fast-growing, non-contact sport which resembles soccer or football but played with an airborne disc. Participants play on a rectangular field with end zones marked at both ends. The goal is to pass the flying disc down the field without it touching the ground.<\/p>\n<p>Passing the disc into the end zone without it touching the ground constitutes a score. If the frisbee touches the ground, however, the opposing team takes possession of the disc. Fouls are called by players.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimate players of all skill levels are welcome at the pickup games. A donation of $5-10 is asked to help with field costs, but nobody is turned away for lack of contribution.
