Police say a 34-year-old Juneau woman overdosed on heroin Saturday morning, but she was revived by responding EMTs.<\/p>\n
Juneau Police Department officers responded to the 6 a.m. 911 call on James Boulevard alongside Capital City Fire\/Rescue medics.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe overdosed, was resuscitated, and was taken to (Bartlett Regional Hospital) by CCFR,\u201d JPD spokesman Lt. David Campbell told the Empire.<\/p>\n
CCFR Richard Etheridge said on Monday he did not have any details about the case at the moment but that more information may be available later.<\/p>\n
CCFR medics have saved seven people from overdosing on heroin this year by administering Narcan, a medication that instantly reverses the effects of a heroin overdose if delivered during the overdose. If Narcan was used in this case, it would mark CCFR\u2019s eighth heroin overdose save of 2015.<\/p>\n
Large swaths of the country are grappling with a crippling and deadly heroin epidemic \u2014 the rate of heroin-related deaths has nearly quadrupled in the U.S. \u2014 and Juneau is not immune. Six people have died from a heroin overdose in the capital city since February of this year.<\/p>\n
