Other Southeast communities also saw overdoses and deaths from opiate drugs. Also in 2015, Sen. Johnny Ellis, a Democrat from Anchorage, introduced Senate Bill 23. This law allows the medication Narcan to be available to the public without a prescription. Narcan stops an opiate overdose. <\/p>\n<p>Cathy stepped up and not only cosponsored the bill but worked with our group, Stop Heroin-Start Talking, and all legislators across the lines to get SB 23 passed \u2014 unanimously. She also worked on other laws to help stop the scourge of heroin and opiates across Alaska. <\/p>\n<p>In getting to know and work with Cathy, I can tell you she is a great Juneauite. As our representative she works hard and makes a difference for Southeast Alaska.
