The polls will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. for this year\u2019s municipal election.<\/p>\n
Three Assembly seats and two School Board seats are up for grabs.<\/p>\n
Incumbent Mary Becker is looking to fight back challengers Arnold Liebelt and William Quayle Jr. to hold onto her District 1 Assembly seat. Incumbent Kate Troll is defending her Areawide Assembly seat from Norton Gregory. And \u2014 spare any write-in surprises \u2014 Beth Weldon will take the vacant District 2 Assembly seat, for which she is running unopposed.<\/p>\n
Kevin Allen, Dan DeBartolo, Jason Hart and Steve Whitney are all running for two open seats on the School Board.<\/p>\n
The ballot will also include three sales-tax propositions. If approved, the first would raise the sales tax on marijuana retail items from 5 to 8 percent. The second would extend the city\u2019s temporary 3 percent sales tax for another five years. The third would make that 3 percent sales tax permanent.<\/p>\n
Voters who don\u2019t know their polling place can call the State of Alaska Polling Place Locator at 1-888-383-8683. They can also vole at any precinct that is convenient so long as they vote using a questioned ballot.<\/p>\n
The city will begin announcing preliminary results shortly after the polls. The results will be made public at Election Central \u2014 also known as the Assembly Chambers in City Hall downtown.
