A white 1994 Chevrolet SUV was found in Gold Creek near Cope Park Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t know how it got there,\u201d Capital City Fire\/Rescue Assistant Chief Chad Cameron said on the phone Wednesday. <\/p>\n
Camerson said it appears the car was parked in one of the parking spots at the entrance of Cope Park \u201cand you can see where they went over the bank.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Juneau Police Department was on scene first. CCFR responded right after at 8:30 a.m. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe got there and went into the creek bed, confirmed no one was there. You could see track marks in the creek bed going down the stream, but everyone was gone, so we don\u2019t know exactly what happened,\u201d Cameron said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt appears as though someone was inside when it went into the creek bed because of the tracks coming out. You could tell someone had been walking in the snow in the creek bed away from the vehicle,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Juneau Police Department has tried to contact the owner of the car through information from the Department of Motor Vehicles, said Lt. David Campbell.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe checked to see who was the owner so we could contact them and say, \u2018Hey, what\u2019s up with your car here?\u2019 and the owner was in a \u2018transfer pending\u2019 status,\u201d said Campbell. <\/p>\n
Capital Towing got the vehicle out of Gold Creek on Wednesday afternoon and JPD impounded it<\/p>\n
As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, Campbell said JPD hasn\u2019t been able to locate the new owner, who is ultimately responsible for the cost of towing and impounding the vehicle.<\/p>\n
