The cool summer weather is perfect for running and a moderately steep pitch makes this the ideal training run for the Klondike Road Relay in September.<\/p>\n<p>The race winds up Perseverance Trail from its start at the end of Basin Road and features 2, 4 and 7 mile distance options. Same day race registration begins at 8 a.m. at the starting line; race starts at 9 a.m. Proceeds benefit the Ben Blackgoat Memorial Scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>Contact Paul and Dianne DeSloover at 586-6709 and pdesloover@yahoo.com for more information. The Empire will have results and photos online and in Sunday print.<\/p>\n<p \/>\n<p><strong>Post 25 attempts to close on division lead<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Juneau\u2019s American Legion Baseball team, Post 25, heads on their final road trip before the state tournament, playing two games this weekend. Post 25 faces Bartlett Post 29 (2-15; 21 points) on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Eagle River (6-9; 33) Saturday at 3 p.m. (American Legion Baseball operates on a points system, awarding 4 points for a win, 2 points for a tie and 1 point for a loss).<\/p>\n<p>Post 25 played a doubleheader against Kodiak Post 17 (1-12; 15 points) Thursday. Check the Empire online or @akempiresports on Twitter for results of those games.<\/p>\n<p>At press time Thursday, Post 25  (13-1; 53 points) stood in second place in the National Division, trailing only Chugiak Post 33 (14-4; 60 points).
