The Portland-based commuter airline SeaPort Airlines, Inc., which used to own Wings of Alaska, recently filed for bankruptcy.<\/p>\n
The Feb. 5 filing does not affect the local airline company since Wings of Alaska sold to a Gustavus-based company, Fjord Flying Service, in October.<\/p>\n
In the bankruptcy filing notice, Wings of Alaska appeared under previous names SeaPort has used in the past eight years along with Alaska Juneau Aeronautics, Inc.<\/p>\n
Fjords Flying Service owner Richard Cole confirmed for the Empire that the purchase of Wings of Alaska from SeaPort did go through last year and is now under Fjord Flying Service.<\/p>\n
\u201cTheir current financial situations have created complications for us, but we are in no way associated with them,\u201d Cole said by phone Thursday.<\/p>\n
He indicated he had a positive outlook on Fjord Flying Service\u2019s future. Wings of Alaska still operates out of the Juneau International Airport under the same name.<\/p>\n
In a phone call Thursday afternoon, Executive Vice President of SeaPort Timothy Sieber confirmed the sale of Wings of Alaska to Fjord Flying Service.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe exited the Alaska market in October,\u201d Sieber said. \u201cOur bankruptcy has no impact on either Fjord or operations in Southeast Alaska.\u201d<\/p>\n
