The Healing Hand Foundation (HHF) is pleased to have received a generous donation of $1,000 from The Juneau Community Foundation’s Health Fund.

Founded in 2001, HHF raises funds to bridge the financial gap for Alaska Natives who need items not provided by the Native health care system. HHF contributes to health needs in three areas: durable medical equipment (such as dentures, wheelchairs, etc.), prescriptions and patient escort travel. Since 2002, HHF has given out more than $450,000 in charitable awards to 1,442 recipients from 18 Southeast Alaska communities.

Five years ago, Sealaska Corporation gifted HHF seed money to set up an endowment fund. Sealaska further established the Sealaska/Soboleff Legacy Trust dedicated to matching all donations up to $100,000 per year for a total of $500,000. With this generous matching gift all donations, including this one from JCF, doubles in value.

Through the generous donations of businesses, individuals, as well as Sealaska’s gift strengthening our endowment fund, the HHF has a strong stable base. That stability has made it possible for 100 percent of all one-time and reoccurring donations to be committed to charitable awards directly to patients in need.

One woman, who lives in Juneau, received help from HHF and is now wearing a new pair of dentures. Mary said, “The help came at a difficult time, when I really needed it, and I’m deeply appreciative.”

HHF is able to accept donations through employee payroll deduction, donations and corporate contributions. All donations are tax deductible.

If you are interested in making a donation, or would like more information, please contact HHF’s Executive Director, Kristin McTague, at 364-4402 or kristinm@searhc.org.
