Through day two of the Region V Baseball Tournament in Ketchikan, all that was final was Petersburg and Ketchikan’s respective seasons. After eliminating Petersburg from the tournament on Friday, the Kings were bounced from the tournament courtesy of Thunder Mountain High School. Whether Sitka could defeat Juneau-Douglas for the second time of the tournament or Thunder Mountain for the first time for the championship was still up in the air.<\/p>\n
TMHS defeated Petersburg 17-3 Thursday afternoon but dropped their game against JDHS 4-2 later that night.<\/p>\n
Bobby Cox pitched a complete game for TMHS, striking out three and conceding 10 hits against the Crimson Bears. JDHS’ Kasey Watts pitched six innings and allowed two earned runs against the Falcons.<\/p>\n
“Our defense didn’t play well enough to win and our bats did not come through like they did this morning,” TMHS coach Bill Macauley said by phone of the game against Juneau-Douglas.<\/p>\n
On Friday, the Falcons’ Zeb Storie pitched a complete game for Thunder Mountain in a 5-4 win over Ketchikan.<\/p>\n
JDHS was not so lucky in their second round game against Sitka: the Wolves blanked the Crimson Bears 12-0.<\/p>\n
“Today was a rough one, for sure,” JDHS coach Chad Bentz said of Friday’s loss to Sitka. “We definitely didn’t expect that but those games do happen sometimes and we just have to learn from it and bounce back.”<\/p>\n
Whether or not JDHS was able to do that was unavailable as of press time. The Crimson Bears played TMHS at 1:30 p.m. in semifinal.<\/p>\n
