The Capital City Chapter of the Alaska Peace Officers Association is hosting its fifth annual Shop With A Cop outing next Saturday on Dec. 19. APOA is currently fundraising and requesting donations.

According to a release issued by the organization Wednesday, a group of young artists has come together to donate artwork to support the event. The artists will set out donated works at the Orca Room at Frontier Suites on Dec. 14 for a silent auction to be held from noon to 8 p.m. All of the proceeds will go to Shop With A Cop.

The donated money for Shop With A Cop pays for a gift for each child, allows the children to buy gifts for family members and pays for groceries for the holiday meal. For every $300 donated, APOA will add a family. The family may have one or more children.

APOA member and Juneau Police Department Lt. Kris Sell said last year 43 children were able to participate in Shop With A Cop. This year an even larger number of children have been nominated by people from across Juneau. APOA currently has enough money to take 12 children shopping.

Anyone can donate to Shop With A Cop by bringing donations to the Juneau Police Department, in care of Dee Ojard. All of the money donated is spent on the Shop With A Cop families.
