The state champion Crimson Bears boys basketball team held a banquet on Tuesday night at the Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall, bookending a Juneau-Douglas High School season in which they won their first state championship in 18 years. <\/p>\n
Gov. Bill Walker, former NBA all-star and JDHS alumnus Carlos Boozer and Juneau lawmakers attended to pay tribute to the boys team and its accomplishmetns.<\/p>\n
Boozer, who was part of JDHS\u2019 last championship squad, contacted coach Robert Casperson himself, saying he wanted to be a part of the ceremonies. He made his first trip to Juneau in three years to congratulate the boys, saying, \u201cI\u2019ve done a lot of things in my basketball career, but I\u2019ll always look back to my state championships here because it gave me an appetite for winning.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201c… I\u2019m proud of you guys, and I wish I could have seen you play a little bit more,\u201d he continued. \u201cTake the lessons you\u2019ve learned, and apply them to your life; you\u2019ll never forget this moment.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gov. Walker almost presented the boys their championship trophy.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was supposed to present the trophy,\u201d Walker joked with the team. \u201cBut I was standing on the court, and one of you guys reached over my head and grabbed it out of my hands. You weren\u2019t gonna wait for the ceremonies.\u201d <\/p>\n
Reps. Cathy Mu\u00f1oz and Sam Kito joined Sen. Dennis Egan to present a framed legislative citation honoring the Crimson Bears\u2019 accomplishments.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am glad to be a part of legislation the governor can\u2019t veto,\u201d Egan said.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Best passer, Treyson Ramos<\/p>\n
\u2022 Best rebounder, Bryce Swofford.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Best defense, Treyson Ramos<\/p>\n
\u2022 Hustle, Bryce Swofford<\/p>\n
\u2022 Most improved, Hunter Hickok<\/p>\n
\u2022 Inspiration, Guy Bean; <\/p>\n
\u2022 Zach Gordon award, Kaleb Tompkins<\/p>\n
