United Way of Southeast Alaska is holding their annual Day of Caring this Thursday, Oct. 1. <\/p>\n
Local nonprofit agencies are matched up with local businesses whose employee teams perform: painting, basic carpentry, gardening, landscaping, construction, sanitizing playrooms, furniture moving, hosting food drives, highway clean up\u2019s and an assortment of other duties.<\/p>\n
Each business\/employer donates up to four hours of their employee\u2019s time to complete these projects. The employee team members receive a \u201cLIVE UNITED\u201d t-shirt and a complimentary breakfast at DIPAC Fish Hatchery before starting their projects at their respective work sites. Businesses who provided support for this year\u2019s Kickoff were Baxter, Bruce & Sullivan, DIPAC and TK McGuires. <\/p>\n
Employees participating are from Wells Fargo, City and Borough of Juneau, GCI, Northrim Bank, University of Alaska Southeast, Juneau Building and Construction Council, True North Federal Credit Union, Elgee Rehfeld Mertz and members of the United Way board of directors. <\/p>\n
These employee teams will complete projects at AWARE, Juneau Family Health and Birth Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Catholic Community Services Adult Bridge Day Program, Helping Hands, Juneau Youth Services, SAIL, Girl Scouts, Juneau Alliance for Mental Health Inc. and the Association for the Education of Young Children. <\/p>\n
Additionally, UAS students with the Ally program will be helping collect food for the Southeast Alaska Food Bank as an extension project for United Way\u2019s Day of Caring on Saturday, Oct. 3; Northrim employees will also be volunteering on this day. <\/p>\n
