On Saturday, Dec. 12, Juneau will host its 9th annual Robot Jamboree, where more than 20 teams from around Southeast Alaska will compete for a spot in the Alaska\u2019s FIRST LEGO League state championship. Kids show their programming, engineering and math skills by building autonomous robots to perform specific missions.<\/p>\n
All FLL Challenges are based on a real-world topic that is universally relevant. Kids will explore the topic of waste in this year\u2019s project, \u201cTrash Trek,\u201d and try to solve Juneau\u2019s trash problem. Teams are also asked to learn and embrace FIRST LEGO League\u2019s Core Values, which include treating others with respect, finding answers on your own, and having fun while you\u2019re doing it.<\/p>\n
The event will be held at Centennial Hall on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with prime viewing activity from 12\u20135 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend and cheer for the teams.<\/p>\n
Volunteers are currently being sought to help out with the tournament. Some positions for adult volunteers include judging core values, robot design, and the project. Younger volunteers are needed for resetting the robot game field, timing, and lining teams up for competition.
