A horde of zombies will invade Savikko Park today starting at noon as part of Harborview Elementary Triathlon Club\u2019s Zombie Fun Run. The event is open to the public and costs $10 in advance and $15 for race-day registration. <\/p>\n
Registration forms can be picked up at Harborview Elementary in advance and at Savikko Park by noon on race day. The 1-mile race begins at 12:30 p.m. and the 5K at 1:15 p.m. The course starts at the Sandy Beach shelters and runs down the length of Treadwell Trail to the Glory Hole in one direction and makes its way back to the starting line by Sandy Beach in another.<\/p>\n
The fun run includes an undead twist: students from Harborview Elementary will be stationed on the course in advance of each race attempting to \u201cinfect\u201d passing runners. Runners will attempt to protect two flags wrapped around their waist from the reanimated children attempting to \u201czombify\u201d participants.<\/p>\n
Runners who successfully protect one or both flags will receive an \u201cI survived\u201d bandana while those infected by the hordes will receive a \u201czombified\u201d bandana after the race. Striking a balance between the polarizing debate of whether zombies are fast or slow, students will be slow and well-behaved while in the woods, but fast and ravenous when they hit the beach.<\/p>\n
