The front door of a Mendenhall Valley home was kicked in earlier this month and the burglar left with more than $2,000 in jewelry, according to police.<\/p>\n
On April 6, a Juneau resident called police to report that a home in the 2800 block of Mendenhall Loop Road was broken into and most of the valuables inside were stolen. Witnesses in the area later told officers they saw a white male between 5\u20198\u201d-5\u2019-10\u201d with a medium build, blonde hair and either a goatee and\/or mustache in the area at the time of the burglary.<\/p>\n
JPD and the Crime Line highlighted the burglary as the \u201cCrime of the Week\u201d on Friday.<\/p>\n
The burglary marks the second one reported in the Valley area. On April 8, a 50-year-old man told police he saw a masked man inside his home in the 4000 block of Diane Road, which is two miles north of the first incident. The burglar threw a crowbar at the man and took off on foot in the area adjacent to Floyd Dryden Middle School, according to a JPD news release.<\/p>\n
Officers were not able to locate the suspect in that case either and believe the burglar also used force to enter the home, possibly by prying a garage door open.<\/p>\n
That suspect is believed to be a white adult male between 6\u2019\u20136\u20192\u201d tall with a thin build.<\/p>\n
