The Thunder Mountain High School volleyball team overcame an excitable start to defeat Ketchikan 3-0 in the first game of the 2017 season.<\/p>\n
The Falcons won in straight sets \u2014 25-17, 25-15, 25-12 \u2014 but not without a little drama in the first game.<\/p>\n
TMHS trailed 15-9 in the first set but managed to turn the tide thereafter.<\/p>\n
The key? Relax.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter I saw that we settled down, I was fairly confident that we were going to win,\u201d TMHS coach Arnold Ibias said.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s the second time the team has made a visit to the First City this season. A jamboree two weeks ago in Ketchikan allowed the varsity, JV and C teams to practice serving, setting and passing. The game Friday night at the Clarke Cochrane Gymnasium gave the Falcons a chance to exhibit some of these skills.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur defensive play was just fantastic, \u201d Ibias said. \u201cWe were able to do some things that we haven\u2019t been able to do in the past. Our back row passed really well tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n
The TMHS JV also defeated the Kings on Friday, 25-8, 25-21, 22-25, 25-21.<\/p>\n
