The City and Borough of Juneau has big plans for downtown. They’re just not yet fully formed and need public input.

A kickoff event for CBJ’s latest area planning effort, called Blueprint Downtown, will be held Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Juneau Arts and Culture Center at 350 Whitter Street.

Following recent plans for Auke Bay and Lemon Creek, Juneau’s city center will be next. Blueprint Downtown’s focus is broad, according to a city release. Juneauites will get a chance to shape the growth, use and opportunities available in the area from the Rock Dump to Norway Point.

CBJ’s Community Development Department (CDD) will facilitate the planning effort.

“Many plans have been undertaken for downtown Juneau, and Blueprint Downtown offers a different approach by incorporating the past planning efforts, and combining them with a community vision of how downtown should continue to grow, develop, and harness opportunities while addressing the challenges, and ensuring that downtown continues to be a place to live, work, learn, and visit,” Jill Maclean, CDD director, said.

Existing plans will be used as a foundation for new ones. Enhancements to downtown and updated zoning will be on the table for the 20-year plan.

Snacks and refreshments will be available.
