{"id":35693,"date":"2018-09-21T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-09-21T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/?p=35693"},"modified":"2018-09-21T06:00:00","modified_gmt":"2018-09-21T14:00:00","slug":"museum-day-includes-book-signing-free-admission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/museum-day-includes-book-signing-free-admission\/","title":{"rendered":"Museum Day includes book signing, free admission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This Saturday, Juneauites can take a look into local history for free.<\/p>\n<p>Admission to the Juneau-Douglas City Museum is free all day Saturday in celebration of Museum Day, open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. As if that&rsquo;s not enough reason to go, author Mary Ehrlander will be signing copies of her book, &ldquo;Walter Harper: Alaska Native Son,&rdquo; at the City Museum from 10:30 a.m.-noon. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/life\/walter-harper-who-died-at-25-in-the-princess-sophia-brought-to-life-in-new-biography\/\" target=\"_blank\">The book tells the story<\/a> of Walter Harper and his wife Frances Wells, who were among the victims of the wreck of the Princess Sophia in 1918.<\/p>\n<p>Coffee will be provided thanks to a donation from Heritage Coffee Company, and copies of the book will be available for purchase in the museum store.<\/p>\n<p>Following the book signing, Ehrlander will give an author&rsquo;s talk at the Father Andrew P. Kashevaroff State Library, Archives, and Museum from 2-3 p.m. The program will be recorded for later broadcast on 360 North and on the web at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.360north.org\/at-the-apk\" target=\"_blank\">www.360north.org\/at-the-apk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This event is co-sponsored by the Alaska State Library and Collections, the Juneau-Douglas City Museum and the Juneau Public Libraries as part of The Great American Read.
