A car crash at Fred Meyer intersection sent a woman to the hospital and left a man with bandages on his head during peak drive time Friday afternoon on Egan Drive.<\/p>\n
Capital City Fire\/Rescue officer Tod Chambers said the woman was responsive but in pain after her vehicle collided with a silver and red pickup at the intersection. Responding officers had to extract the driver from her compact car with a hydraulic rescue tool known as the “jaws of life.”<\/p>\n
“She was alert, conscious, responsive,” Chambers said. “She seemed like she was fairly stable.”<\/p>\n
Chambers said it’s not known what injuries the woman sustained, if any.<\/p>\n
The man, a middle age white man, drove off on his own to seek medical attention after CCFR determined he was safe to drive.<\/p>\n
“He’s self extricated. He had a head laceration but it pretty much stopped bleeding,” Chambers said.<\/p>\n
The pickup came to a stop in a median between the offramp to Juneau International Airport and the onramp to Egan Drive. The woman’s compact vehicle — which seemed to suffer the brunt of damage — remained in offramp to the airport. Both had to be towed from the scene.<\/p>\n
Police extinguished a small fire before CCFR was able to get to the scene. Responding fire and rescue officers came from the airport CCFR station.<\/p>\n
Juneau Police Department is still investigating how the crash happened. Small amounts of oil and debris from the crash were being picked up as of 4:30 p.m. Friday.<\/p>\n
Inbound traffic on Egan Drive was slowed for about 45 minutes while officers dealt with the crime scene.<\/p>\n
