First Alaskans Institute is hosting a Social Justice Summer titled “Social Justice Doers: Partners for the Next 10,000 Years…” next week that kicks off with an open-to-the-public Warming of the Hands Sunday.<\/p>\n

The free gathering starts at 4 p.m. at Juneau Arts & Culture Center, 350 Whittier St., and heavy hors d’ouvres will be served. It will also include the signing of Administrative Order 300, “Responding to Alaska’s Linguistic Emergency and Increasing Collaboration with Tribes,” by Gov. Bill Walker at 5 p.m., said Andrea Sanders, director of First Alaskans Institute’s Alaska Native Policy Center.<\/p>\n

Woosh.ji.een dance group will also perform.<\/p>\n

The equality summit will be 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Centennial Hall, 101 Egan Drive.<\/p>\n

“To truly achieve the equitable and just vision we strive for, all sectors must be engaged in creating, implementing, and living it,” stated the event’s description. “To that end, we are bringing movers and shakers from all fields together to roll up our sleeves and take meaningful steps towards the world we collectively want. We especially encourage those in the world of policy-making to attend and engage in the discussion. We welcome indigenous peoples and people from all racial, ethnic, and cultural groups, as well as all abilities, LGBTQ, genders, and identity groups — we know that our diversity makes us stronger.”<\/p>\n

Youths younger than 18 may attend the summit with a chaperone.<\/p>\n

Registration for the summit is $75 and can be done online at https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/social-justice-doers-partners-for-the-next-10000-years-tickets-48741046783. <\/a> The registration fee will be waived for students and elders.<\/p>\n
