{"id":40074,"date":"2018-12-20T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-12-20T15:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/sports\/its-not-too-late-for-youth-to-join-skiing-program\/"},"modified":"2018-12-20T06:00:00","modified_gmt":"2018-12-20T15:00:00","slug":"its-not-too-late-for-youth-to-join-skiing-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/home\/its-not-too-late-for-youth-to-join-skiing-program\/","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s not too late for youth to join skiing program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&rsquo;s not too late to join the Juneau 4-H Nordic Cross Country Ski Club.<\/p>\n<p>The 4-H program, a youth development organization run by the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension&rsquo;s Juneau office, extended its registration deadline for the upcoming season to this Sunday, Dec. 23.<\/p>\n<p>The club meets for the first time on Sunday, Jan. 6, and continues for the next nine Sundays from 1:30-3 p.m. Ski location varies from week to week.<\/p>\n<p>Ski technique, gear maintenance, trail etiquette and outdoor skills are points of emphasis, serving as a solid preparatory ground for those looking to join the high school-aged Juneau Nordic Ski Team. No prior experience is necessary to join the club, but the club will be capped at 30 skiers.<\/p>\n<p>The cost is $150 for ski rental, activity fee and registration fee. Partial and full scholarships are available on request.<\/p>\n<p>To register, head to 4-H Cooperative Extension office at 712 W. 12 Street between hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m. during the week.
