Suspended by rope from the eaves the feeder<\/p>\n
hangs between me and the morning sun.<\/p>\n
Shadows dance across my newspaper<\/p>\n
as three chickadees, dart between a hemlock<\/p>\n
and the waiting bounty of sunflower seeds.<\/p>\n
How different from the junco which<\/p>\n
will hunker down in the seeds and fly<\/p>\n
at others with beak open and wings aflutter.<\/p>\n
The chickadees are different. One flies in, selects<\/p>\n
a seed and takes it away to crack or cache.<\/p>\n
As the first leaves the second flutters in<\/p>\n
while the third perches and waits its turn.<\/p>\n
If only the politicians I am reading about<\/p>\n
could show such interest in the common good.<\/p>\n
