Juneau-Douglas High School senior Cully Corrigan wisely held off celebrating what appeared to be a game-winning goal on Friday night at Treadwell Arena.

Standing six feet from the net early in an eight-minute sudden death overtime period, Corrigan watched the puck zip off the crossbar and teeter on the goal line for a split second before momentarily redirecting his stare.

“Looked over at the ref and it wasn’t a goal yet,” Corrigan said.

The senior promptly whacked the puck in the net, leaving nothing to chance and sealing a riveting a 4-3 overtime win over Homer High School. The Crimson Bears and Mariners go head-to-head again Saturday night.
