On Nov. 14, 1986, the Alaska Municipal League was close to endorsing Mayor Ernie Polley\u2019s resolution to clarify the Open Meetings Act during a committee session. Although adjustments were made, the group agreed that the act must be looked at and reviewed. Changes included stating that the act must stay intact and that the sole purpose of the resolution was to clarify the provisions of the act. Although Mayor Polley originally disliked the idea of tightening these provisions, he agreed that he would be willing to work with them if edited that way.<\/p>\n
Juneau residents would soon have had the opportunity to talk to the University of Alaska President Donald O\u2019Dowd regarding the reorganization of Alaskan schools. Previously, 300 people attended a hearing, many of whom opposed the plan to remove many graduate programs, reduce faculty and eliminate the Juneau-Douglas Community College from the Juneau campus.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Gov. Bill Sheffield held his last cabinet meeting.<\/p>\n
