A former candidate for the state House of Representatives was appointed to a local board this week.

The City and Borough of Juneau Assembly appointed Chris Dimond, who ran for the House District 33 seat this past fall, to a seat on the CBJ Docks and Harbors Board, according to a CBJ release Wednesday. Dimond’s seat begins now and will run until June 30, 2021.

Dimond replaces Dan Blanchard on the board. Dimond is a Juneau-Douglas High School graduate. He’s worked as a carpenter for the local carpenter’s union, working on projects including renovations to the Treadwell Pump House and lobbying legislators on behalf of the union.

Dimond ran for the House District 33 seat as an independent, losing to current Rep. Sara Hannan, D-Juneau, in the Nov. 6 election. Dimond earned an endorsement from former Gov. Bill Walker, also an independent, during the lead-up to the election.
