The Chilkat Challenge Triathlon is returning for the third straight year out of Haines.

The triathlon swaps the traditional swimming portion for paddling, and raises money for Alaska Clean Water Advocacy, a nonprofit working to keep Alaska rivers and oceans clean and productive.

The race is slated for Saturday, July 6, about 30 miles outside of Haines. Race goers will ply the waters of Mosquito Lake and the Chilkat River for about 9 miles, cycle down the Haines Highway for 22 miles and finish with a 9-mile run to the Chilkat State Park.
