My Son<\/p>\n
I gave him vegetables and vitamins,<\/p>\n
barefoot days at Sandy Beach<\/p>\n
and Mount Juneau’s granite peak.<\/p>\n
I gave my son a universe of books.<\/p>\n
Now, he wants a world<\/p>\n
of justice and compassion.<\/p>\n
Each workday at noon, my son<\/p>\n
stands at the Capitol, holding<\/p>\n
a hand-lettered sign. He wants<\/p>\n
healthcare for all, funds for education<\/p>\n
and action on climate change,<\/p>\n
things I can’t give him.<\/p>\n
But he’s not giving up.<\/p>\n
He raises his voice<\/p>\n
at the town hall meeting<\/p>\n
and brings his young daughter<\/p>\n
to the Women’s March.<\/p>\n
My son gives me resolve<\/p>\n
to write a letter,<\/p>\n
make a call,<\/p>\n
keep doing my job as his mother.<\/p>\n
