{"id":4644,"date":"2017-12-03T15:20:07","date_gmt":"2017-12-03T23:20:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/uas-earns-honor-as-military-friendly-school\/"},"modified":"2017-12-03T15:20:07","modified_gmt":"2017-12-03T23:20:07","slug":"uas-earns-honor-as-military-friendly-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/life\/uas-earns-honor-as-military-friendly-school\/","title":{"rendered":"UAS earns honor as military-friendly school"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Alaska Southeast has earned a spot on Military Friendly Schools&rsquo; <a href=\"http:\/\/militaryfriendly.com\/schools\/\" target=\"_blank\">list of the most military-friendly universities in the <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/militaryfriendly.com\/schools\/\" target=\"_blank\">country<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>UAS recently instituted a new program, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uas.alaska.edu\/career_services\/uscg_cspi_scholarship.html\" target=\"_blank\">College Student Pre-commissioning Initiative<\/a> (CSPI), that helps interested students prepare for careers with the United States Coast Guard. UAS Chancellor Richard Caulfield said the school also works to honor students and staff who are veterans.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;UAS has a particularly strong relationship with the U.S. Coast Guard and Army National Guard,&rdquo; Caulfield said in a release. &ldquo;The Military Friendly recognition underscores our commitment to providing quality education and training and a supportive environment to members of the military community.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The CSPI serves as a scholarship program that pays for up to two years of tuition and fees and, with the completion of Officer Candidate School after graduation, guarantees a job, career services coordinator\/VA school certifying official Deborah Rydman said in the release.<\/p>\n<p>There were three Alaska schools that earned recognition, with the other two being the University of Alaska Anchorage and Alaska Fairbanks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Alaska Southeast has earned a spot on Military Friendly Schools&rsquo; list of the most military-friendly universities in the country.
