{"id":46470,"date":"2019-04-16T03:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-04-16T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/home\/new-jacc-building-should-be-put-to-a-vote\/"},"modified":"2019-04-16T08:29:45","modified_gmt":"2019-04-16T16:29:45","slug":"new-jacc-building-should-be-put-to-a-vote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/letters\/new-jacc-building-should-be-put-to-a-vote\/","title":{"rendered":"Opinion: New JACC building should be put to a vote"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I hear and respect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/opinion\/opinion-now-is-the-time-to-make-the-new-jacc-a-reality\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ben Brown&rsquo;s opinion <\/a>on building a new Juneau Arts and Culture (JACC) building in Juneau, but with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/fleeing-the-49th-state-alaskas-population-declines-again\/\" target=\"_blank\">decrease in population figures<\/a> in Juneau for the last couple years, is this something we should be doing?<\/p>\n<p>Brown has a sharper pencil than I do when estimating the cost, where the money will come from and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/new-report-brings-good-news-for-new-jacc\/\" target=\"_blank\">the profits to be made in just a few <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/new-report-brings-good-news-for-new-jacc\/\" target=\"_blank\">years<\/a>. My estimates are we will be subsidizing this monster forever more.<\/p>\n<p>I would like to see the people of Juneau &mdash; and not the Assembly &mdash; vote on spending millions of dollars on this project.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe the Assembly should concentrate on how to retain state jobs and the Capitol here in Juneau, rather than spending money on a nice-to-have project.<\/p>\n<p>A five-month tourism window can attract some money. Unfortunately, there are seven more months in a year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dick L.
