The Juneau Park Foundation kickoff is this Friday at the Alaskan Brewing Company’s tasting room.<\/p>\n

The foundation is geared toward improving the recreational offerings in the capital city, according to its Facebook page<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“The Juneau Park Foundation brings neighbors together to improve our parks, playgrounds, trails and public spaces for everyone,” the page states. “We believe safe, well-designed and well-maintained parks are essential to our community and make Juneau a place where people choose to live, work and play.”<\/p>\n

[Eaglecrest to break ground on public use cabin]<\/a><\/ins><\/p>\n

The foundation’s first project is the construction of a public-use cabin at Amalga Meadows Park. The cabin will be near the Eagle Valley Center on Amalga Harbor Road at Mile 25 of Glacier Highway. The City and Borough and Juneau is partnering with the foundation on the project.<\/p>\n

“We know people love Juneau’s public use cabins. Demand is so high that it’s often hard to find one, and only three are easily accessible from the road system,” Parks & Rec Director George Schaaf said in a press release. “This new cabin will help meet demand, and combines easy access with a scenic, secluded location.”<\/p>\n
