It cost the province&rsquo;s economy $2.7 billion in that time. He said things have turned around and the ferries are working better now, but it took 16 years to recover.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<p>He led the crowd in a quick call-and-response cheer, saying, &ldquo;When our ferry system is under attack &#8230; &rdquo; and the crowd responding, &ldquo;We stand up and fight back.&rdquo;<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_JN44wUYLSY\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<p><strong>12:35 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<p>Inlandboatmen&rsquo;s Union President Marina Secchitano said the union gathered 1,000 signatures in three days for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/maritime-festival-celebrates-juneaus-connection-to-the-ocean\/\" target=\"_blank\">a letter to the Legislature<\/a>. They delivered those signatures to legislative offices in Juneau, Anchorage and Ketchikan on Monday, she said.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<p><strong>12:27 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<p>Rep. Andi Story, D-Juneau, says she&rsquo;s learned a lot on the House Transportation Committee. For example, the Coast Guard calls out to ferries in emergencies, and that about 25 percent of people using ferries are actually headed up to the Fairbanks area (including her husband for the Arctic Man race once a year). She says ferries need to be fully funded &ldquo;in common sense, for the common good.&rdquo;<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<p><strong>12:05 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<p>The rally is still getting underway, and they&rsquo;re waiting on lawmakers to join them. Mike Dunleavy&rsquo;s plan to balance the state&rsquo;s budget, he has proposed a $97 million cut to the Alaska Marine Highway System.
