{"id":4797,"date":"2017-02-16T00:49:00","date_gmt":"2017-02-16T08:49:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spijue.wpengine.com\/news\/mudslide-damages-douglas-home\/"},"modified":"2017-02-16T00:49:00","modified_gmt":"2017-02-16T08:49:00","slug":"mudslide-damages-douglas-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/mudslide-damages-douglas-home\/","title":{"rendered":"Mudslide damages Douglas home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A mudslide damaged a residence on Douglas Island, between Lawson Creek and Homestead Park, after a water leak reportedly caused a retaining wall to fail on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The slide occurred on the downhill slope in the 2500 block of Douglas Highway, taking out the retaining wall and pushing a small shed down toward the house, CBJ Emergency Program Manager Tom Mattice said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s no longer stable,\u201d Mattice said by phone, adding that the mudslide pushed in two walls of the residence, which was vacant and for sale. \u201cIt\u2019s uninhabitable at this point.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The water and power was cut off due to safety concerns, he noted.<\/p>\n<p>Workers from Alaska Department of Transportation &amp; Public Facilities will put in a temporary retaining wall, Mattice said.
