He said his opposition to the mine is the incremental stress it would put on the environment. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s the wrong mine in the wrong place,&rdquo; he said. She said her opposition to Pebble Mine is its potential impact on salmon runs.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0NsCV5xKVyo\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Noon<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<p>Ralliers today are organizing in Juneau as part of a statewide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defendbristolbay.com\/events\" target=\"_blank\">No Pebble Mine Rally <\/a>organized by environmental nonprofit <a href=\"https:\/\/akcenter.org\/ayea\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Alaska Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pebbleprojecteis.com\" target=\"_blank\">Public comment for the Army Corps of Engineers&rsquo;<\/a> Draft Environmental Impact Statement closes in July, so rally-goers are voicing their opposition to the proposed open-pit mine near Bristol Bay. They&rsquo;re gathering in front of U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski&rsquo;s Juneau office.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<p>Other rally sites this week are Soldotna, Anchorage, Wasilla and Fairbanks.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<p>Previously, the U.S. House of Representatives passed an amendment to the Energy and Water Appropriations Act that would suspend funding for Pebble Mine permitting in Fiscal Year 2020, and <a href=\"https:\/\/akcenter.org\/2019\/06\/19\/alaskan-voices-are-heard-on-pebble-at-federal-level-but-we-demand-more\/\" target=\"_blank\">Alaska Center hopes the Senate will do the same<\/a>.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<p>Stay tuned for live coverage of the event.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<p><hr \/><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<p><b>\u2022 Contact reporter Ben Hohenstatt at (907)523-2243 or bhohenstatt@juneauempire.com.
