So far, there are more impending openings on the City and Borough of Juneau Assembly than there are candidates for the upcoming municipal election.

As of Tuesday morning, three incumbent City and Borough of Juneau Assembly members — Carole Triem, Alicia Hughes-Skandijs and Wade Bryson — had filed their paperwork with the city to run for three of four open seats.

Triem, who was first to file, is running for the one open areawide seat, which has a three-year term.

Hughes-Skandijs is running in District 1, which encompasses downtown Juneau, Lemon Creek, Douglas, the airport and all points south.

Becker cannot seek re-election since she has served three terms. That means the district will have openings for both a three-year term seat and one-year term seat.

Bryson is running for District 2’s lone open seat, which has a 3-year term, and submitted his paperwork Monday, CBJ Deputy Clerk Diane Cathcart told the Empire. District 2 comprises the Mendenhall Valley, Auke Bay and points north.

Assembly seats aren’t the only elected positions that will be up for grabs during the Tuesday, Oct. 1 municipal election. However, they are the only openings to draw candidates.

There are two impending openings for the Juneau School District School Board and no one has filed to attempt to fill them.
