Elsie Lee Brown died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019, surrounded by family on her final days.<\/p>\n
Brown was born in Juneau, and graduated from high school with a 4.0 average.<\/p>\n
She married Austin Harding Brown in 1953, they had eight children together. She worked for the federal government for two years, followed by employment with the Territory of Alaska.<\/p>\n
Her lifelong dream was to attend college; this was realized at the age of 45. She attended the University of Washington, leaving Juneau with three teenagers and a 9-month-old. Brown returned to Juneau to work at the Division of Administrative Services, Department of Health & Social Services. She received her bachelor’s degree in Business, retiring as a Contract Specialist. She worked in the same office for almost 43 years; at the time, she was the second-longest serving employee of the State of Alaska.<\/p>\n
