The Juneau Police Department on Monday released the name of the individual shot by a JPD officer outside Safeway on Aug. 4.<\/p>\n

Police said in a release<\/a> he is Christopher Netling, 29. He is still receiving medical care at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, police said in a release. Netling is in intensive care, said Harborview Medical Center director for media relations Susan Gregg.<\/p>\n

JPD also released the names of the officers involved: officers Thomas McGrann and Hannah Malone.<\/p>\n

Police say McGrann shot Netling twice during an incident in the parking lot at the grocery store in the Mendenhall Valley. Netling allegedly grabbed a woman around her neck and placed her in a chokehold, preventing her from leaving the car.<\/p>\n

JPD said in an earlier release, “When officers contacted the male inside the vehicle, he did not comply with verbal commands. The officers attempted to remove the male from the vehicle and he resisted. A close-quarters struggle ensued and the male armed himself with a knife. He was shot two times by one of the officers.”<\/p>\n

Netling was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau, then medevaced to Washington.<\/p>\n

Netling is charged with two felonies: second-degree domestic violence assault and third-degree assault on a police officer. Bail has been set at $20,000.<\/p>\n

Netling was previously arrested in 2018 <\/a>on an outstanding warrant and charged with resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer, harassment and violation of conditions of release.<\/p>\n

McGrann joined the JPD in 2016. Before this, he was a sheriff’s deputy in North Carolina and military policeman with the Army. Malone has been with the JPD since 2015. She was formerly in the United States Marine Corps.<\/p>\n

The investigation is ongoing, police said.<\/p>\n
