{"id":51762,"date":"2019-08-13T22:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-08-14T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/candidate-withdraws-from-school-board-race\/"},"modified":"2019-08-15T11:53:42","modified_gmt":"2019-08-15T19:53:42","slug":"candidate-withdraws-from-school-board-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/candidate-withdraws-from-school-board-race\/","title":{"rendered":"Candidate withdraws from school board race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the five candidates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/candidates-throw-hats-into-ring-for-school-board\/\" target=\"_blank\">running for a school board seat <\/a>has withdrawn her application.<\/p>\n<p>Juneau Board of Education candidate Amanda Ryder has withdrawn from the upcoming election, City and Borough of Juneau Clerk Beth McEwen said in a release Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I was prepared to spend money and run if there were three candidates in the race,&rdquo; Ryder said in a phone call Thursday. &ldquo;I was not interested in running in a field that crowded.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>That means four candidates remain for two vacant seats. Those candidates are Martin Stepetin Sr., Emil Robert Mackey III, Bonnie Jensen and Deedie Sorensen.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I think they&rsquo;re all good candidates,&rdquo; Ryder said cheerfully, but added that she was not prepared to endorse a candidate.<\/p>\n<p>The election will be on Oct. 1.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>\u2022 Contact reporter Michael S.
