Much of the discussion at this meeting centered around public input in recent weeks and what the university should retain. While the university needs to remain attractive to ensure student enrollment and maintain its accreditation, severe cuts will be made and the university’s overall structure will findamentally change.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t
This meeting provided no actionable material and was simply an update on some of the input University President Johnsen had received. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t
Johnsen will present a more complete restructuring plan to the full Board of Regents on Sep. 12. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t
3:00 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t Anderson points out that while financial exigency has been withdrawn the directive to move the university to a single accreditation model has not.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t 2:54 p.m. <\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t Regent Purdue says, “the eyes of the state are upon us,” and that this is the opportunity for the university to streamline itself.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t She takes issue with the “consortium” model which in the past has been promoted by the University Chancellors. The “consortium model” she says, is simply a code word for the status quo. She says that she has seen incredible collaboration between the universities in the past but she has also seen the opposite.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t “The best way to see if the consortium model works, is to see if it works now,” she says.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t 2:44 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t There is recognition that the reductions must be done in a thoughtful way as to not jeopardize student enrollment and has been reiterated several times.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t Accreditation is something that also needs to be considered, and inclusion and transparency is an integral part of that process Johnsen says.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t
