{"id":53825,"date":"2019-10-04T08:45:00","date_gmt":"2019-10-04T16:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/haines-man-recovering-from-non-life-threatening-bear-mauling\/"},"modified":"2019-10-04T08:45:00","modified_gmt":"2019-10-04T16:45:00","slug":"haines-man-recovering-from-non-life-threatening-bear-mauling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/haines-man-recovering-from-non-life-threatening-bear-mauling\/","title":{"rendered":"Haines man recovering from non-life-threatening bear mauling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ANCHORAGE &mdash;<\/strong> A 21-year-old Alaska man is recovering from a bear mauling.<\/p>\n<p>Alaska State Troopers said Casey Bradford of Haines was treated for non-life-threatening injuries Thursday night following the brown bear attack along the Chilkat River.<\/p>\n<p>Troopers said Bradford and his 55-year-old father, Scott Bradford, were heading to their boat after moose hunting when the bear came out of the brush and attacked Casey Bradford from behind.<\/p>\n<p>Troopers said Scott Bradford shot his rifle over the animal, which released the son then darted into the brush as the father tried to shoot it.<\/p>\n<p>Troopers said the Bradfords made it to their vehicle and drove to a medical facility. The bear was not immediately found.
