A man was arrested in the Mendenhall Valley early Thankgiving morning for misconduct involving a weapon, according to a Juneau Police Department press release.<\/p>\n
JPD received a call at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday about a man discharging a firearm at a 57-year-old man near Teal Street, Lt. Krag Campbell wrote in the release. Police responded and located the 57-year-old man attempting to leave the area, as well as a 34-year-old woman.<\/p>\n
The 57-year-old man was uncooperative and witness statements contradicted each other, but the suspect in the shooting was eventually identified as 47-year-old Juneau resident Kenneth Wade Poplasky, police said.<\/p>\n
Officers obtained a warrant for Poplasky’s residence and found Poplasky inside, arresting him for three misdemeanor counts of misconduct involving weapons. A handgun was in Poplasky’s possession when he was arrested, Campbell said.<\/p>\n
The investigation found that the 57-year-old man and 34-year-old woman went over to Poplasky’s residence earlier. Poplasky was reported to be intoxicated and became irate with the guests, kicking them out and firing two shots at the 57-year-old man, neither of which hit. Alcohol and controlled substances appear to be factors in the shooting, Campbell said.<\/p>\n
Poplasky was taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center and held on $5,000 bail.<\/p>\n
