{"id":56302,"date":"2019-12-09T08:40:00","date_gmt":"2019-12-09T17:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/city-names-new-director-of-public-works\/"},"modified":"2019-12-09T08:40:00","modified_gmt":"2019-12-09T17:40:00","slug":"city-names-new-director-of-public-works","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/city-names-new-director-of-public-works\/","title":{"rendered":"City names new director of public works"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The City and Borough of Juneau has named Homer City Manager Katie Koester as the next director of the Public Works and Engineering Department, according to a press release from the city.<\/p>\n<p>Koester will take up the position &ldquo;at a future date,&rdquo; the release said, replacing previous director Mike Vigue who retired earlier in December.<\/p>\n<p>Koester has served as Homer&rsquo;s city manager since 2015, the release said, and is working on a master&rsquo;s in public administration at the University of Alaska Southeast.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fcbjuneau%2Fposts%2F2168032963500925&#038;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"733\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowTransparency=\"true\" allow=\"encrypted-media\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Public Works &#038; Engineering is the backbone of municipal government. The department&rsquo;s work provides safe travel, clean water, responsible stewardship of the environment,&rdquo; Koester said in a statement. &ldquo;Juneau is a thriving and vibrant capital city and I am looking forward to working with the (city) team, Assembly, and community to implement their vision for the future.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Koester has also served as the City of Homer&rsquo;s Community &#038; Economic Development Coordinator.
