The Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaat.at Kalé girls basketball team defeated Bartlett High School 44-42 on Friday night.<\/p>\n
Senior Kendyl Carson paced the Crimson Bears with 22 points, recording 16 of her team’s 25 first-half points.<\/p>\n
JDHS (4-1) gave up 21 points to Bartlett’s star guard Amelia Uhilia but kept the Golden Bears’ 3-point shooters of Kaitlyn Herrmann and Sierra Tunguing from getting hot. The duo combined for just six points. JDHS coach Steve Potter pointed to this as “probably our biggest success.”<\/p>\n
“Normally (Uhilia) gets in the middle and kicks it out to those girls and they shoot 3’s all day and they make them,” Potter said.<\/p>\n
JDHS led 34-32 after the third quarter but lost the lead several times in the fourth. Jenae Pusich made two free throws to put the Crimson Bears up 41-40 with 27 seconds remaining and Carson and Kiana Potter iced the game with three more free throws.<\/p>\n
Just over 24 hours earlier, JDHS lost to Colony High School 55-53, another game in which Carson was the leading scorer, this time with 32 points.<\/p>\n
Thunder Mountain High School hosted Bartlett on Thursday and Colony on Friday, falling by scores of 61-33 and 59-31.<\/p>\n
The JDHS and TMHS girls teams are back in action Saturday night. The Crimson Bears host Bartlett at 5:30 p.m. and the Falcons host Colony at 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
