{"id":59180,"date":"2020-03-13T21:30:00","date_gmt":"2020-03-14T05:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/city-announced-public-facility-closings\/"},"modified":"2020-03-16T15:42:06","modified_gmt":"2020-03-16T23:42:06","slug":"city-announced-public-facility-closings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/city-announced-public-facility-closings\/","title":{"rendered":"City announces public facility closings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>City facilities close through March 30<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>City and Borough of Juneau announced it is closing public facilities amid COVID-19 concerns.<\/p>\n<p>CBJ is closing Augustus Brown Pool, Dimond Park Aquatic Center, Mount Jumbo Gym, the Downtown Public Library, Mendenhall Valley Public Library, Douglas Public Library, Juneau-Douglas City Museum, Zach Gordon Youth Center and Dimond Park Field House through March 30.<\/p>\n<p>The closures will impact all programs offered through the field house. The CBJ Parks and Recreation Department is postponing its coed volleyball season, too, CBJ said in a release.<\/p>\n<p>The BAM after-school program and Start Smart program at ZGYC are also suspended.<\/p>\n<p>The March 16-30 duration is the same length as the closure of public schools that was announced Friday by Gov. Mike Dunleavy.<\/p>\n<p><ins>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/schools-closed-to-students-until-april-gov-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Schools closed for two weeks, Gov says<\/a>]<\/ins><\/p>\n<p>CBJ is also suspending senior open gym, but will continue to offer the Juneau Hike Program, according to the release.<\/p>\n<p><strong>University of Alaska Southeast closes library to the public<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>University of Alaska Southeast announced Monday its Egan Library would be closed to the public for the same period of time. Egan Library will remain open to current UAS students, faculty and staff.
