{"id":59528,"date":"2020-03-29T02:30:00","date_gmt":"2020-03-29T10:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/life\/middle-school-students-do-well-in-statewide-contest\/"},"modified":"2020-03-29T02:30:00","modified_gmt":"2020-03-29T10:30:00","slug":"middle-school-students-do-well-in-statewide-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/life\/middle-school-students-do-well-in-statewide-contest\/","title":{"rendered":"Middle school students do well in statewide contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Floyd Dryden Middle School&rsquo;s sixth-grade team made it to the third round and placed second statewide in the Feb. 26 Battle of the Books competition.<\/p>\n<p>Twelve teams battled for the honor of being in Round 2 and four teams made it to Round 3. If a team made it to all three rounds, they ended up competing for six hours.<\/p>\n<p>Students Della Mearig, Anberlin Tingey, Miranda Stichert and Amelia Walker and coach Rachelle Grossardt were part of the second-place team, and they trailed first place by only two questions.<\/p>\n<p>Battle students start reading over the summer and begin weekly practices in September.
