This months First Friday celebration of art will feature a blend of virtual and in-person events.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t

Other communities, including Homer and Haines, will be joining in on the monthly event, too.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t

Participants submitted a favorite recipe that hold a special place in their heart.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t

This cookbook allows people to check out what your neighbors are cooking and try a new recipe this week!<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t

Alaska State Library, Archives and Museum: “Alaska’s Suffrage Star: The History of Women’s Suffrage in Alaska,” <\/strong>4:30 p.m. virtual event, https:\/\/lam.alaska.gov\/suffrage-star<\/a> and www.facebook.com\/AKStateLibrary<\/a>. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t

“Alaska’s Suffrage Star,” an online exhibit by the Alaska State Museum, shares the history of women’s suffrage in Alaska, explaining how local and national activism helped Alaska women citizens achieve the vote in 1913. The first bill ever passed by the Alaska Territorial Legislature granted voting rights to women, but only in 1924 did Alaska Native women become eligible voters, when the federal government granted U.S. citizenship to Native Americans. Museum Services Curator Anjuli Grantham will share some of the stories behind the exhibit on the Alaska State Library and Historical Collections.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t

Annie Kaill’s June 2020 featured artist will be Candice Christie. Christie is a Juneau artist who creates abstract multi-media artworks. Recently, she has been working in three mediums: mixed-media collage, cold wax and oil and acrylic pouring.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t

A limited in-person viewing will begin at 4:30 p.m., Friday. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t

Juneau Artist’s Gallery: Merridy Magnusson, Photographer, <\/strong>in-person event, 4:30-6 p.m., 175 Franklin St.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t

Photographer, Merridy Magnusson, is the June Artist of the Month for the Juneau Artist Gallery. Her new work includes new and old photographs processed on metal right here in Juneau. As a member of the gallery for 27 years she has a treasure trove of Juneau photos including the transitions of the Mendenhall Glacier.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t

HCOA’s June exhibit, “Abundant Wildlife,” features colorful drawings by Anchor Point artist Jay Wright. This month’s First Friday will take place during our normal gallery hours and an artist talk will be shared online.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t
