The Juneau Police Department is postponing its National Night Out due to COVID-19 concerns, JPD announced.<\/p>\n
“The tentative date for NNO is Oct. 6, 2020,” said Lt. Krag Campbell in a news release. “JPD will continue to evaluate the conditions in Juneau to see if holding a NNO event is advisable.”<\/p>\n
The National Night Out is a national event to improve law enforcement and first responder relations with the community that began in 1984. In Juneau, members of uniformed services will travel to a variety of neighborhoods where residents are generally holding cookouts or get-togethers to meet with people in a non-emergency context, Campbell said.<\/p>\n
It is held annually on the first Tuesday in August in most of the country.<\/p>\n
“As October comes closer, JPD will provide updates on the status of the NNO event this year,” Campbell said. “We appreciate everyone’s understanding during these times.”<\/p>\n
