{"id":62676,"date":"2020-08-14T13:15:00","date_gmt":"2020-08-14T21:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/primary-elections-where-to-vote\/"},"modified":"2020-09-08T15:14:26","modified_gmt":"2020-09-08T23:14:26","slug":"primary-elections-where-to-vote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/primary-elections-where-to-vote\/","title":{"rendered":"Primary Elections: Where to vote"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Alaskans will choose who they want to see on the November ballot Tuesday, as votes are cast in the Aug. 18, Primary Election to select which<br \/>\n    candidates will ultimately represent their party at the state and federal level.<\/p>\n<p>Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. The Alaska Department of Elections isn&rsquo;t requiring voters to wear cloth face coverings, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elections.alaska.gov\/Core\/COVID19faq.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">but strongly recommends doing so<\/a>.<br \/>\n    However, the City and Borough of Juneau has its own mask mandate in place, requiring cloth face coverings at all polling places.<\/p>\n<p>\n    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NMd2PmdF3X4\" frameborder=\"0\"\n            allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p>Alaska lets recognized parties choose who they allow to vote in their primaries. Only registered Republican voters can vote in the GOP primary, but<br \/>\n    Alaska&rsquo;s Democratic is open to those registered as non-partisan as well.<\/p>\n<p>DOE&rsquo;s website provides additional information on alternative forms of voting, or voter assistance for the <a href=\"https:\/\/elections.alaska.gov\/Core\/disabledvoterassistance.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">elderly or physically<br \/>\n    disabled<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The following is a list of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elections.alaska.gov\/Core\/listofpollingplacelocations.php#40\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">polling locations<\/a> in the Juneau area for Districts 33 and 34, which cover Juneau,<br \/>\n    Gustavus, Haines and Klukwan. All information provided on the DOE website is up to date and accurate, according to DOE Director Gail Fenumiai.<\/p>\n<p>Absentee ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day and must be signed by the voter and one witness who must be over 18. However, United<br \/>\n    States Postal Service workers will no longer be able to act as a witness for absentee ballots, due to a recent rule change.<\/p>\n<p>Max Cava, station manager at the Federal Station Post Office at the Hurff A.
