Starting Tuesday, breakfast and lunch will be free and available to all Juneauites 18 and younger, Juneau School District announced.<\/p>\n
The United States Department of Agriculture National School Lunch Program <\/a>reinstated the flexible meal program the district offered last spring<\/a> in response to the pandemic, according to a news release from the district.The 18 and younger limit does not apply to Juneau School District students. It’s anticipated that the program will last through the end of December.<\/p>\n Weekend meals will also be free and distributed at the end of the school week beginning on Friday, Sept. 11, according to the district.<\/p>\n “We are thankful that we can again provide free meals seven days a week to the youth of our community in times like these,” said Adrianne Schwartz, Juneau School District food service supervisor, in a news release. “The district, along with our partners, NANA Management Services and First Student, will be ready on Tuesday to increase the distribution to more families.”<\/p>\n While the schools have been in the distance-delivery education format, meals have been distributed by either pick-up at schools or delivery by First Student. Parents and caregivers can pick up meals 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Friday at any school.<\/p>\n
